Howdy. This is Bob. The Bob of Bob Blog. This blog contains about five minutes of my thoughts each day. A record. A history. And occasionally worth reading.

SIGGraph has such a different feel from E3. Less hype and more products. More like GDC. Here's my report:

Best of show: Wacom Cintiq, an interactive pen display. Probably not important for a programmer, but I can see all the artists drooling. The list price for the 18" display is $3500.

Runner-up: 3D Lego Models - basically a group devoted to making lego models.

    The art gallery:
    Dinarsour bones with speakers attached
    Touch screen with water
Continuator - a system from Sony that learns music. (embarrased that the official site is boring so enjoy this blog entry about it instead)
Access - a surveillance experiment as the spotlight follows someone in the crowd. And you can watch on the web.

    The exhibit hall:
    Multi-node office computers. The Pie
Crowd! - crowd simulation software. Details? Unknown.
Natural Motion - Rag doll simulation. No API yet.
Martian Labs provides a competitor for water
    Softimage/Behavior - programmable crowd simulation
illusion - particle effects by WonderTouch
VR juggler - open source virtual reality tools
    Vapir - digital air
    SceneStealer - 3D from photos
Immersion had a couple of 3D sensory hands - Habtic Workstation and CyberTouch.
    Virtools - a gaming toolkit

    Cell phone technology:
3D for phones - Mascot Capsule
And Acceleon Visual Platform - 3D acceleration

    More professional things to do:
    Journal of Game Development
Wondertouch - a particle system. Mostly for Rich but I think tools may be in my future.
    Qt cross-platform environment from TrollTech
Nik Lever's book "Flash MX Games : Actionscript for Artists"
Animation Master - someday I'll invest the time and energy to go 3D.
